About Us

The United Way of Bruce Grey is a social service based charity. We fundraise for agencies that are not full funded by the government or have projects that need community partners. We fund agencies that are supported by governments, with significant staff levels and we have agencies that rely totally on volunteers to operate.

The United Way provides leadership, mentorship in addition to providing a broad community convener role, creating tables and networks among the silos of services. The United Way provides funding to 18 different agencies throughout the two counties, serves on 14 different networks and committees, providing leadership for 4.

All of the funds raised stay in Bruce and Grey Counties. Most of our agencies are based out of Owen Sound but service the entire two counties. Some agencies are also a co-operative of 3 or more counties and are also funded by our neighbouring United Ways.

The United Way of Bruce Grey is on the forefront of poverty reduction conversations in the community and at a provincial level for specifically rural poverty issues.

With the launch of 211 in Bruce and Grey in February of 2009, the United Way has made poverty reduction a priority, noting that not having access to the right information at the right time is a significant obstacle to poverty reduction.

In November of 2005 the United Way gave Community Connection a grant of $5 000 to support the launch of 211 in the South Georgian Bay region. In January of 2006 the United Way and Community Connection entered into a MOU for the development of 211 for Bruce and Grey Counties. Three years and over $100 000 later the United Way celebrated the launch of 211 in Bruce and Grey Counties.

The United Way remains committed to 211, with annualized funding and a seat around various tables locally and provincially.
